What is Normal Blood Pressure

systolic blood pressure

If you was told your systolic blood pressure was 130 and your diastolic blood pressure was 60, what is its meaning? You will get the clear information about that here.
First, systolic blood pressure(SBP) is an internal force that blood exerts on vessels when the heart is beating and it is just a number of force which is on the top of your blood pressure reading. While diastolic pressure is an internal force that blood exerts on vessels when while the heart is relaxed.

diastolic and systolic blood pressure

For example, when your blood pressure reading is 120/80, your systolic is the number on the top, 120 which means the pressure inside your blood vessels at the moment your heart beats and your diastolic is 60 which measures the pressure in your blood vessels between heartbeats when your heart is resting.

120/80 is normal blood pressure,if your top and bottom blood pressures are both too high that that, it means you have high blood pressure. And if only SBP is higher than 140, it is a condition called isolated systolic hypertension.

How Is It Measured?
Your doctor or nurse will use a device which is called a sphygmomanometer to test your blood pressure.
A fabric cuff is wrapped around your arm and then inflated slightly. The blood pressure is measured on a gauge attached to the cuff. The healthcare provider reads the numbers that appear on the gauge as air is released from the cuff.
