what is normal blood sugar
The sugar in the blood is known as blood sugar. In most case, blood sugar is glucose. The consumed energy of cell activities are from from glucose mostly, so blood sugar must be maintained at a certain level in order to support the body’s activities.
What is blood sugar concentration?
Blood sugar concentration is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood. Usually, there are two units to show the valuce of blood sugar concentration. One is old unit, which is mg/dl, the other is new unite, which is mmol/L. It is suggested to use new unit today, but the old unit is also used in some case. The conversion for these two units is shown in below:
mg/dl÷18=mmol/L; mmol/L×18=mg/dl
For example, if your blood sugar concentration is 120mg/dl, it is 120mg/dl÷18=6.67mmol/L.
What is normal blood sugar?
Generally speaking, normal blood sugar is between 70 and 150 mg/dl. However, it is fluctuated during one day, typically it is lower in the morning, and rise after meals.
In the early morning before breakfast, it is about 80 ~ 120 mg. Blood sugar over 130 mg early in the morning is high glucose. If the blood glucose concentration is over 160~180mg, some glucose will be released with urine, which is diabetes. Blood glucose concentrations below 70 mg in the early morning is called low blood sugar.
